If an individual who is a permanent resident of Australia leaves the country after the travel validity on their visa expires, or if it expires when they are outside of Australia, they will not be able to return to the country with the status of a permanent resident. The RRV (Subclass 155) allows the individual to return to the country as a permanent resident.
