802 (Child Onshore) Visa

The 802 (Child Onshore) visa offers children the opportunity to permanently reside in Australia and be with their parents. Under this visa, the child can freely travel to and from Australia multiple times within a 5-year period from the date of visa issuance, as long as the travel authorization on the visa remains valid.

Key Features:

  • Allows the child to establish indefinite residency in Australia.
  • Permits the child to engage in work and study within Australia.
  • Provides access to Australia’s public healthcare scheme, Medicare.
  • Enables the child to sponsor relatives for migration to Australia.
  • Offers the option to apply for Australian citizenship, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • The child should be a dependent of a parent who is an Australian citizen, eligible New Zealand citizen, or holds an Australian permanent visa.
  • The child must be under 18 years of age, a full-time student aged over 18 and under 25, or over 18 and unable to work due to a disability.
  • The child must be single and reliant on the parent.
  • The child should be present in Australia both when the application is submitted and when the decision is reached.

Conditions of the Visa

  • The child must be physically present in Australia at the time of application and when the decision is made. However, they must not have received immigration clearance.
  • If the child is currently in Australia on a different visa with a “no further stay” restriction, they are not eligible to apply for the 802 visa.
