Subclass 820:

The Subclass 820 visa is a temporary visa that allows the spouse or de facto partner of an Australian national, Australian permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand national to live in Australia.

  • This is a temporary visa that leads directly to the Permanent Partner Visa (subclass 801).
  • While your Permanent Partner Visa (subclass 801) application is being processed or until you withdraw it, you can stay temporarily in Australia.

Subclass 801:

To be eligible for the Permanent Partner Visa (Subclass 801), you must already hold a Temporary Partner Visa (Subclass 820).

  • You must already possess a temporary Partner Visa (subclass 820).
  • With the Subclass 801 visa, you can reside permanently in Australia.
